SEAHORSE Bulk Carrier design philosophy

SEAHORSE Bulk Carrier design philosophy

OMTs SEAHORSE is recognised worldwide as a modern and highly efficient Bulk Carrier.

The SEAHORSE is developed in close corporation with some of the world's most prominent owners and operators. Our clients’ business needs and requirements have resulted in a design with specific focus on:

OMT has delivered both tailor-made versions of the SEAHORSE and series of SEAHORSE designs. The first SEAHORSE vessel – a 35,000/37,500 DWT Handy Size Bulk Carrier - was contracted in 2008 by a Danish owner. Today, 60 SEAHORSE 35/375 vessels have been contracted by well-known companies like Cobelfret, Hanzevast, Pola, Graig, Essberger, Berthling, Aug. Bolten, Ariston Navigation Corp, Nordic Hamburg, Falcon Maritime and MUR.

The success of the SEAHORSE 35/375 Bulk Carrier design can not only be seen in the number of vessels delivered but is also acknowledged by Lloyds List’s Greek Shipping Awards.

The vessels have been build at 10 different shipyards and the design is known for its manufacturability and maturity. OMT further offers to monitor the development of the detailed design and the build and commissioning of the vessels in order to reduce the owners risk.

New generation of SEAHORSE designs

Encouraged by the great success of the SEAHORSE 35/375 design, OMT has developed three new SEAHORSE Bulk Carrier designs in joint venture with Mitsubishi Shipbuilding.

Hull form, propeller and energy saving device optimisation and tank testing of the new designs have been prepared in close cooperation with our Japanese partner, Mitsubishi Heavy Industry at Mitsubishi Nagasaki. The rest of the specification and power train etc., has been developed in Denmark by OMT.

The new designs include Handysize, Ultramax and Kamsarmax bulk carriers.
